Prompt #4: Describe your career aspirations?
July 21, 2013I'll make this one quick & to the point: Here's the list of my career aspirations that have come to be over time.
1. (AGE 5) Bull Rider--I was borderline bucked off a horse in Jackson Hole as a child, but miraculously held on and wasn't killed.
2. (AGE 5/6) Grocery Store Worker--I thought that the conveyer belts and the scanning were the epitome of cool. Then, "self-checkout" was invented meaning that I could scan my own stuff and didn't have to actually work at the grocery store to do it.
3. (ELEMENTARY SCHOOL) Lawyer--I enjoyed debating and thought I was bomb at it. Especially on instant messenger. Because that was the thing that was cool to everyone back in that day and age.
4. (ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, P. 2) Actress--I would practice made up monologues in my room at night & was convinced that I would make it all the way. This may have been fueled by the fact that I got to play the Nurse in "Romeo & Juliet" when I was in 6th grade.
5. (JUNIOR HIGH) Pediatrician--I was fascinated by biology and wanted to do something medical. I also wanted to do something with kids. Boom. I was going to be a pediatrician.
6. (HIGH SCHOOL) Psychologist of some form--I took my first psychology class in 10th grade and fell in love with the subject and the concept.
7. (HIGH SCHOOL P. 2) Cosmetologist--I came to the conclusion that for me, being a psychologist wouldn't accommodate with how much time I would want with my future family. I felt as though if I were to be a cosmetologist, I could execute my creativity while using some sort of psychology (with my clients) to help them feel at ease. Not only that, I would be able to have a salon in my future home which = I could be at home with my future kids still. I got accepted during high school to attend beauty school but last minute didn't feel right about it and turned down my admission.
8. (HIGH SCHOOL P.3) Graphic Designer--I absolutely love graphic design still to this day. I wouldn't be offended if I was judged for my severe love of typography. I still constantly get opportunities to do design & unfortunately felt as though education wouldn't be required of me in this area if I wanted to earn money doing it, so I opted for something else while continuing to keep it as a hobby.
9. (COLLEGE) Dietitian--It took me only my first semester of college to discover that taking nutritionally based courses were where I was meant to go. Not only did I have personal experience in improving my own personal health, it also contained all the components of the things I loved over the years: psychology, science, helping people, benefit to my future fam.
10. (COLLEGE P. 2) Certified Health Education Specialist & potential dietitian--A few aspects about the Dietetics program made me feel extremely uneasy right now. I'm unsure the reasons why, but when it came time to apply for the program, I couldn't. So I'm pursuing my education in community health in hopes to become a CHES. When I finish that degree, I may choose to pursue and finish the 2nd half of my dietetics/food science degree as well {only time will tell}. but what exactly does a CHES do?
"As a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), you'll work with individuals and communities to improve or maintain their health by engaging in behaviors that promote positive health. You'll also be responsible for setting up and managing various programs aimed at bringing this information on exercise, nutrition and disease prevention to those who need it. It'll be your job to make sure that people receive the health resources that would benefit them the best and pertain to their personal situations and cultural norms."
11. (OVERALL) A Stay at Home Mom--This is where my heart, passion, and motivation lies: in regards to my future family. My biggest goal pertaining to my schooling is not so that I can have a career and make a lot of money, it's so that I'll be educated in aspects that will benefit my future family's life, as well as be able to show my kids how important education is to me. If the time comes where there is a need for me to work, not only am I willing but I will also prepared educationally.
There you have it! I won't lie, I'm guilty of having an overly ambitious heart. I would do it all if I could.
